Sunday Programming

Explorers at 9:00am & 11:15am

There is Explorers programming available for your child from birth through grade 5 at every service time here at Sharon United Methodist Church. Each week your child will discover who Christ is and what following Him means for his or her life through fun creative teaching, active learning, and relationships. Each gathering, children ages 3 through grade 5 (Preschool and Elementary) will be presented with a Biblical lesson.

In Explorers, we believe that the Bible is God’s guidebook for us, a compass to get us closer to God. Each time we gather, we open it up for guidance and direction. We use the CEB as our standard version. All of the curriculum we use is written by staff and Explorers volunteers here at SUMC with a Biblical foundation. It is designed to help your child understand that God loves them and wants to take them on an adventure, and help them grow their relationship with God wherever they may be in that journey.

Each week your child will learn, “The One Thing” which is the Biblical lesson of the week. This “One Thing” is a memorable phrase that encapsulates the Bible lesson and the application. They are memorable steps of your child's adventure with God.

The Elementary ministry is called, “The Outbound” and is for children who are currently in Kindergarten through grade 5. There is one environment for Kindergarten through grade 2, and a separate environment for grade 3 through grade 5. Sometimes, programming for Elementary is combined, and other times is divided into the two age groups. Curriculum and teaching is given by staff and volunteers who believe that God’s Word is an adventure! In The Outbound, your child will also experience fun games, high energy worship, and a small group time with volunteers to discuss how they can apply the “One Thing” in their life.

The Preschool ministry is called, “The Treehouse” and is for ages two through five who are potty trained. In the Treehouse, your child will experience how God loves them and has an adventure for them! The environment is split into several small classrooms for classroom rotation. These classrooms include age appropriate tables and chairs for crafts and snacks, open carpeted areas for worship and games, small playground equipment, and have safety doors for dismissal.

The nursery ministry is called, "The Meadow" and is for ages birth to potty-trained or three years old. This is a calm environment for your infant, and is currently operated by two highly trained staff members. Children are promoted out of the nursery when they are potty trained or reach the age of 3, whichever comes first.

Sunday School at 10:05am

Birth to Three-Year-Olds
The Meadow (Nursery) is open during Sunday School.

Godly Play: Four-Year-Olds to Grade 2
Children have an innate sense of the presence of God. The Godly Play approach helps them to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, the Godly Play method serves children ages four through second grade during Sunday School hours. Children begin with Children's Music in the Children's Wing and are escorted to the Godly Play room.

Club 345: Grade 3 Through Grade 5
Club 345 is a deeper step for older elementary children during Sunday School hour. Children experience a time for Biblical community, a Biblical lesson, and end with Children's Music.

Please contact the church office, 704.366.9166, or email for more information about any of these activities.
